European Union Bill

Proceeding contribution from Charlie Elphicke (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 8 March 2011. It occurred during Debate on bills on European Union Bill.
In one moment. I do not think that it is an excuse to say that because the House of Lords is partly reformed, we can give it a role as the guardian of our democracy pending the completion of that reform. Given that we have been racing towards the reform set out in the preamble to the 1911 Act for 100 years, it may take another 100 years to complete it—and given the way things carry on in this place, I suspect that we will indeed be waiting for 100 years to come.
