Finance (No. 2) Bill

Proceeding contribution from Angela Eagle (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 11 October 2010. It occurred during Debate on bills on Finance (No. 2) Bill.
I am anxious to get on. I have given way a lot and many other Members wish to speak. The Irish example demonstrates the risks of focusing on getting the deficit down—too high a cost to the growth potential of the economy. The Irish have had deep and fast cuts as well as tax rises, but growth has been hit, which is making getting the deficit down harder rather than easier.
