Health Bill [HL]

Proceeding contribution from Baroness Greengross (Crossbench) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 26 February 2009. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Health Bill [HL].
I first apologise, because I did not notice that this was grouped earlier. I thank the Committee for allowing me to speak briefly. This is a probing amendment: an attempt to clarify the information that needs to be published to ensure that we capture the deficit of dignity in care. I know that the Minister is committed to quality accounts focusing on the patient experience, but this is about ensuring that dignity is at the top of the agenda. It is a big concern for the charities Help the Aged and Age Concern. However, as a commissioner on the Equality and Human Rights Commission, I am concerned, under the banner of human rights, for any vulnerable person not having the dignified care that they deserve and which should be guaranteed under this constitution and the new approach that we are discussing. I hope that the Minister can reassure me that this will be looked at carefully and clarified so that it is available.
