There are some important elements contained within the Bill—namely its few nuclear clauses and, indeed, its reform of the renewables obligation—but the Government delude themselves if they think that this is the best way to make energy policy. If the industry is to make the correct investment in the UK, securing us clean and reliable energy, and if consumers are to be protected from the volatility of the wholesale energy markets, we need much more aggressive action. The real absence of decisions over the last 10 years has placed us in a very precarious situation. The Bill must not be used as an excuse for further hesitation.
