Banking (Special Provisions) Bill

Proceeding contribution from Stuart Bell (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 21 February 2008. It occurred during Debate on bills on Banking (Special Provisions) Bill.
I am not an expert on witches' brew. If I were an expert on witches' brew, I would be an expert on the Freedom of Information Act. The point is—and the Financial Secretary has already made it—that Northern Rock will not be a public body. Freedom of information legislation requires that sensitive information be defended. The Bank of England has an exemption from the Freedom of Information Act in regard to the provision of private banking and related services. There is no reason why Northern Rock should fall within the purview of the Freedom of Information Act.
