I support the amendment, not with reluctance but because it is crucially important to face this issue. A huge number of grandparents are now involved in supporting their daughters and sons—usually it is their daughters—so that they can have a full working and parenting life and not be in the same position the grandparents are in now. There may be a better way of doing this—I accept that—but we are asking the Government to find a better way to deal with this situation and, at the same time, to acknowledge the amazing extra sacrifice being made by this generation. I very much support the intentions of the noble Baroness, Lady Hollis.
