I am still slightly bamboozled about which bit of red tape the hon. Gentleman is referring to. Is it schedule 2 to the Immigration Act 1971? It explicitly states:"““An immigration officer may examine any person who is embarking or seeking to embark in the United Kingdom for the purpose of determining…his identity””."
Or is he perhaps referring to the instructions reissued to front-line staff this year, which reiterated the guidance that was already available? They state:"““Passengers wearing veils or other face coverings are to be asked to remove the covering in order that they may be identified as the rightful holder of their passport or travel document.””"
Which bit of red tape is the hon. Gentleman arguing is getting in the way?
