Pensions Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lynne Jones (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 18 April 2007. It occurred during Debate on bills on Pensions Bill.
I cannot agree that what my hon. Friend has described is not means-testing, although I accept that means-testing is very important and I would not want the incomes that very poor people receive to be reduced. I appreciate her opposition to the Conservative amendment, which is supposed to be a probing one, but what is her opinion of the Liberal Democrat proposal, which I think is very reasonable? It would merely ensure that information is provided to people so that they can decide whether personal provision through an auto-enrolment scheme is worthwhile.
