Welfare Reform Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Skelmersdale (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 19 March 2007. It occurred during Debate on bills on Welfare Reform Bill.
My Lords, this subject has been covered more than once in previous stages of the Bill. I recall the Minister saying: "““We expect the income-related strand of employment and support allowance to offer access to the same benefits that have already been discussed as income support currently does””.—[Official Report, 1/3/07; col. GC 266.]" If the Government can change the expectation to an affirmation that they will offer the same access to the same benefits as are available to people on income support, I am sure that the noble Baroness, Lady Thomas, will be more than happy to withdraw her amendment.
