Offender Management Bill

Proceeding contribution from Ian Lucas (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 28 February 2007. It occurred during Debate on bills on Offender Management Bill.
I am to be asked to vote on a particular amendment and my reading of it is as I have described. For that reason, I shall oppose the amendment. I ask other hon. Members to think seriously about the effect of voting in favour of the proposed amendments, because they might prejudice high-quality and important care that is being provided in our communities by voluntary sector and private sector organisations. To vote in favour of the amendments would serve the political expediency of our opponents, but it would not serve the interests of our constituents.
