Welfare Reform Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord McKenzie of Luton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 28 February 2007. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Welfare Reform Bill.
Any case where there has been an error or where full information has not been given is to be regretted, but we never focus on the multitude of cases where proper information and support are given. Those are never fully identified and dealt with in our debates. But that does not detract from the point that the noble Lord made; we need to make sure that we serve every customer as fully and effectively as we can. The DWP and the Department of Health, under the Disability and Carers Service, have been working with Macmillan Cancer Support to identify better ways to signpost disability and other benefits at the earliest opportunity. The process will be woven into the information prescription proposals for England, which the Department of Heath is developing with our involvement.
