I am grappling with the conundrum of why restoring the link was denounced for the past few years as old Labour policy but is now acclaimed as new Labour policy. Does my hon. Friend agree that the best way of restoring full confidence in the Government’s intentions is to establish a link between the changes in the basic state pension and those in hon. Members’ salaries?
