I am slightly bemused because I heard the noble Baroness say that we should not put in the Bill something that might change; there might be other ways of making appointments. I remind the Minister that the amendment refers to people being appointed on merit, "““in accordance with the principles appearing to them to represent the best practice in making appointments””."
That is not going to change.
