Armed Forces Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Robathan (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 7 November 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Armed Forces Bill.
I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman; I had not intended to rejoin this debate. My point was not to attack the Ministers on the Front Bench, for whom I happen to have—to varying degrees—grudging regard, but to point out that when Major Attlee was Prime Minister and when that famous Labour Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald was in power, they took no action. What has changed except the passage of 90 years? The hon. Gentleman has been attacking my hon. Friends, but I should point out that we in the shadow Government have a very large number of people with military experience, including myself, my hon. Friend the Member for Westbury (Dr. Murrison), who has been in Iraq, and my hon. Friend the Member for North-East Milton Keynes (Mr. Lancaster).
