Animal Welfare Bill

I support the sentiment behind the proposal and the exploration of the issue, but I wonder whether the word ““play”” is a touch anthropomorphic. However, I have not amended the amendment; if I had, I might have proposed, ““live, sleep and exercise””, because for a lot of animals living in unfortunate conditions the inability to sleep as they would choose is probably as severe a punishment as anything. The concept of playing is probably covered by the word ““exercise””, but that is a small quibble. The noble Duke raises a very interesting point.
