It is difficult not to have sympathy with the amendment. On the other hand, as the noble Earl, Lord Peel, indicated, the issue of bird shoots goes much wider. The noble Earl mentioned imports and I see the odd French partridge which did not get shot wandering about. But how many are returned to France dead, to be eaten? More importantly, how many are just shot and buried? There are many allegations about that, and it is an unacceptable face of countryside activity.
