I add my voice to this debate only to reiterate that this is a very difficult problem. I am reminded that my noble friend Lord Arran, whose father introduced the Badgers Bill into your Lordships’ House for the first time, tells me that he remembers occasions as a young man going into his parents’ room to find that there was a pair of terriers on the bed and a fox and a badger under the bed. The smell was unbelievable, but it demonstrates that even foxes and badgers can, at times, be semi-domesticated.
