The amendment before us is interesting and was well moved by the noble Baroness, Lady Seccombe. But there would be a great danger in removing the word ““National””. I understand ““national”” to mean Great Britain and Northern Ireland—the United Kingdom. It seems to me that if we remove that word, we remove the protection of a European-wide identity card.
