Identity Cards Bill

I sympathise with the Minister’s position, but she sits on that Bench answering not just for the Home Office but for the Government. When she is asked questions about the total cost for the Government, with great respect, she should not reply that that is not a matter for her. The questions being asked are perfectly legitimate. The question just asked from the Liberal Democrat Benches about what will be the cost for reading these passports should be answered. She said herself at Second Reading and again today that the cost that she keeps giving of £584 million is only for issuing passports and identity cards to UK nationals. It does not include anything else.
