Immigration Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Taylor of Holbeach (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 1 April 2014. It occurred during Debate on bills on Immigration Bill.

Of course, I am very happy to talk to the noble Baroness about the detail of this. I mentioned that the Secretary of State considers these cases and normally has a 60-day period to get the individual’s status sorted out. We appreciate that this is not easy for individuals to cope with. I think that 90 days was mentioned by the noble Baroness, Lady Lister, and also by the noble Baroness, Lady Smith. But in practice, 60 days is within the Secretary of State’s discretion.

I will write with fuller detail. I hope that we will have a chance to talk about this before we get to Third Reading.
