Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change pursuant to the oral statement of 29 November 2012, Official Report, column 378, on energy policy, what the evidential basis is for the statement that the UK's low-carbon sector takes a £122 billion share of the global market.

Answer

The source for this data is the 2010-11 report on 'Low Carbon Environmental Goods and Services (LCEGS)' published in May 2012 by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. It is stated in section 4.2 that

'UK LCEGS Sales in 2010/11 is £122.2bn'

and Table 4 provides a breakdown of sales by sub-sector over the last three years.
