Lords Briefing pack by Nicola Newson. It was first published on Wednesday, 1 July 2015. It was last updated on Wednesday, 1 July 2015.

The European Union (Approvals) Bill [HL] is a Government bill which is due to receive its second reading in the House of Lords on 6 July 2015. The purpose of the Bill is to approve two draft decisions of the Council of the European Union:

• To establish an EU position on the participation of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as an observer in the work of the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency.

• To update the instrument that formalises the Tripartite Social Summit—a forum for consultation between the EU institutions and European social partner organisations representing the interests of workers and employers—in light of changes over the last decade in the EU’s legal and institutional framework.
