Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005

Written statement made by Lord West of Spithead (Labour) on Thursday, 25 March 2010 in the House of Lords, on behalf of the Home Office.
My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department (Alan Johnson) has today made the following Written Ministerial Statement. In accordance with Section 14(3), 14(4) and 14(5) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005, Lord Carlile of Berriew QC prepared a report on the operation of the Act in 2009, which I laid before the House on 1 February 2010. I am grateful to Lord Carlile for another considered review. Following consultation within my department and with other relevant agencies, I am today laying before the House my response to Lord Carlile’s recommendations. I am also laying before the House my response to the report on the renewal of the control order legislation by the Joint Committee on Human Rights (published on 26 February 2010). Copies of the government responses will be available in the Vote Office and a copy of each will also be placed on the Home Office website.
