I raised with the Home Secretary a matter that I had raised with his predecessor. Of course the Minister with responsibility for identity is entitled to her maternity leave, and we wish her well in her motherly duties. However, we felt that this was a difficult period for the Home Office, and that it was important that her job should be filled for this limited time—we are all sure that she will come back at the end of this period. We were told by the Home Secretary that it was the "substantial" figure of Lord Brett—
