I thank the Minister for his comments. Naturally, I am very disappointed by what he said, although I am not entirely surprised. I should like to make one or two points in addition to thanking all noble Lords who joined in the debate. Where there has been absolute unanimity on the matter, that will not go away. Destitution as a policy does not work. It will take 14 years to ““clear up the backlog””, which is a terrible way of describing the situation. Therefore, we are committing hundreds of thousands of people to destitution for the next 14 years. What do we think we are doing? As I said, I am grateful for what everyone said, and I beg leave to withdraw the amendment.
