Constitution

Proceeding contribution from Lord Lloyd of Berwick (Crossbench) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 3 July 2007. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Constitution.
My Lords, the Statement refers to the House of Commons having a greater role in the selection of public officials, "““whose role it is to protect the public’s rights and interests””." On the face of it, that would include judges; indeed, it is a good description of what they spend most of their time doing. Will the noble Baroness the Leader of the House confirm that there is no intention of holding pre-appointment sessions in the House of Commons or anywhere else in the appointment of judges?
