UK Parliament / Open data

Statistics and Registration Service Bill

The truly shocking aspect of the Minister’s response was his saying that the Government might agree to releasing personal information for non-statistical purposes into the EU. He referred to the UK properly assenting to such a requirement. In my view, the UK could never properly assent to any such notion, but clearly the Government’s views and ours on what we will do with our citizens’ data within the EU do not coincide, as is the case with many of our views on our relationship with the EU. However, that is too large a subject to pursue further this evening. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. [Amendment No. 180 not moved.]
