Electoral System

Proceeding contribution from Lord Beith (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Monday, 26 February 2007. It occurred during Opposition day on Electoral System.
My hon. Friend understands the importance of that work. When the Select Committees on Constitutional Affairs and on Office of the Deputy Prime Minister jointly looked at the issue of individual registration it became clear that, important as individual registration is, it could well result in a significant fall in the number of people registered. It must therefore be accompanied by measures to increase the registration of people who ought to be on the register.
