Electoral System

Proceeding contribution from Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Monday, 26 February 2007. It occurred during Opposition day on Electoral System.
I am grateful for that, and I am happy to have the hon. Gentleman in my constituency, as he knows; he is very welcome. If I may say so, he has already made a good contribution in the House. I do not mean to patronise him in any way. He has done extremely well on certain issues. He is right: in recent years my local authority has tried hard to do that job well, and to do it better. I think that it is doing so, and the Minister’s borough next door—Lewisham—is trying to do so, too. Good practice bears dividends, because other local authorities can emulate it.
