Greater London Authority Bill

Proceeding contribution from Nick Raynsford (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 12 December 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Greater London Authority Bill.
No, I have already given way to the hon. Gentleman. He should think rather harder about logic before making further interventions. The first of my reservations concerns powers. I believe that, broadly, the Government have made the correct judgments about the areas in which the Mayor’s powers should be enhanced. As I have said, I think it absolutely right for the Mayor to receive the strategic and financial roles of the London housing board, and to be able to play a much more positive role than has been possible in the past.
