Animal Welfare Bill

Proceeding contribution from Baroness Byford (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 23 October 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Animal Welfare Bill.
My Lords, on our behalf and that of my noble friend Lord Soulsby, I thank the Government for looking at these amendments. I would like the House to know that my noble friend has a hospital appointment, so cannot be here today. I remind the House of my own farming family background, although we are without livestock. I am also an honorary associate member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. We support these amendments, and are grateful to the Government for taking our concerns away and coming back with something that will make it easier for those in the veterinary service to undertake their duties.
