Animal Welfare Bill

I am grateful for that clarification. In an earlier debate on this Bill there was a difference of view on the rearing of game birds. If the Minister has just indicated that consultation will take place with those who are involved with the rearing of game birds, she will also have to accept the other side of the coin—that the Government will, no doubt, have to consult those who look carefully at all welfare issues and who do not necessarily agree or take the same view on the practical rearing of birds. Codes of practice are enormously important, which is why we have pressed the Minister and tabled so many amendments. It is also important to consider the words ““thinks fit””. One person’s view is not necessarily shared by another. One view is that something is a practical day-to-day happening, and the other aspires to ask whether an animal is suffering. I shall read Hansard carefully. We have had a good debate and I am very grateful to the Minister for her comments. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. [Amendments Nos. 78 and 79 not moved.] Clause 14 agreed to. Clause 15 [Making and approval of codes of practice: England]: [Amendments Nos. 80 to 85 not moved.] Clause 15 agreed to. Clause 16 [Making of codes of practice: Wales]: [Amendment No. 86 not moved.] Clause 16 agreed to. Clause 17 [Revocation of codes of practice]: [Amendment No. 87 not moved.] Clause 17 agreed to.
