Animal Welfare Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Christopher (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 14 June 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Animal Welfare Bill.
I support the amendment. Eight weeks sounds right to me. I do not want to repeat what has been said, but before Report could the amendment be revised to deal with what appears to be the growing problem of the sale of stolen dogs in pubs and elsewhere? If the dogs were found to be stolen, the relevant person would be charged with theft, or whatever the relevant crime was. However, it is important to try to restrict sales other than from places which could be easily identified and traced.
