Health Bill

We have taken this almost as far we can go. However, I want to explain to the Minister that I was not talking about a direct causal relationship between two factors—bed occupancy rates and infection rates. I was trying to say that I suspect that a range of factors come into play that cause infection to be at a different level—the population of patients, for example. If a number of elderly patients come from residential homes where there is an increased incidence, they bring those infections with them to hospital. Clearly, that will make a difference. It is about trying to come up with a system that is sufficiently detailed and robust without being extensively bureaucratic, which generates meaningful data that enable us to tackle the problem. That is the issue that I was trying to have a go at. However, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. [Amendments Nos. 54 to 56 not moved.]
