Health Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Monson (Crossbench) in the House of Lords on Monday, 15 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Health Bill.
I added my name to this amendment because, despite the Minister’s new-found enthusiasm for the draconian laws of California, New York City and, I think, Maryland and a couple of other places in the United States, I do not think we want to go down the American road. For example, when they get back to America, men who have fought for two years in Iraq and have possibly been decorated or even promoted, are not allowed to buy a glass of beer because they are under 21. That is quite ridiculous. If you are an adult you are an adult and should be allowed to do, broadly, what you want once you reach 18.
