Electoral Administration Bill

I am grateful to the Minister for her response. I understand and accept some of it, such as the fact that it is not necessary to have translations into all possible languages at every polling station. One obviously has to pay attention to the practicalities. I was a little surprised by the fact that, in some polling stations, it is impossible to have large-print information on display unless it is hand-held. I am not entirely convinced that it is unnecessary to amend Clauses 36 or 37 and that everything can be done adequately without that. In particular, I am concerned by the fact that the clauses do not provide even for the possibility of alternative formats. Clearly, the Disability Rights Commission, which is much more aware than I am of the issues involved, will have to consider very carefully what the noble Baroness has said. The question of whether we bring this back on Report and, if so, the form of the amendment, is one that we will have to consider in the light of any further expression of views we get from the Disability Rights Commission. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. [Amendments Nos. 104 to 106 not moved.] Clause 36 agreed to. Clause 37 [Assistance for certain postal voters]: [Amendments Nos. 107 to 112 not moved.] Clause 37 agreed to. [Amendments Nos. 113 and 114 not moved.]
