Consumer Credit Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord De Mauley (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 21 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Consumer Credit Bill.
My Lords, I thank the noble Lord, Lord Razzall, and my noble friend Lord Freeman for their comments, and the noble Lord, Lord Borrie, and the Minister for theirs. However, I am afraid we are still apart. There is a simple difference of opinion which can be distilled down to the fact that we believe the OFT’s powers are extended by the Bill and that there needs to be a balanced framework within which those powers are exercised, and the Government disagree. In those circumstances, I think it is appropriate to test the opinion of the House. On Question, Whether the said amendment (No. 2) shall be agreed to? Their Lordships divided: Contents, 132; Not-Contents, 150.
