Equality Bill [Lords]

Proceeding contribution from Philip Davies (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 21 November 2005. It occurred during Debate on bills on Equality Bill (HL).
No Member in any part of the House questions the good intentions behind the Bill. Many of us, however, are nervous about whether bodies such as those in the Bill are the most effective way of bringing about the changes that the hon. Lady would like to see. Given that in the past 10 years, approximately 20 racial discrimination cases have been brought against the CRE by its own staff, does she think that it is setting a good example in curbing racial discrimination, particularly given that taxpayers’ money is being used to settle these cases out of court?
