My Lords, I thank the Minister for that comprehensive explanation. Anything that assists in the prevention of identity fraud, particularly with regard to the changing of identity once entry has been secured with a view to asylum application, is to be welcomed. I am pleased about the provisions of the 2003 regulations with regard to minors, to which the Minister referred, and to the destruction of documents. I am also pleased that British subjects and Commonwealth citizens who have a right of abode here have slightly preferential treatment in that their records have to be destroyed as soon as possible. We support this measure.
