Traffic Management (Northern Ireland) Order 2005

I have not been over much of Northern Ireland. I get there twice a week, but I do not go to many places. But I am told and I have read that the current department operates road enforcement, road fund licence activities and checking all across Northern Ireland. I am unaware of any no-go areas regarding that activity. Obviously there will be areas where there is no problem—nevertheless, you always need to check whether there is a problem. People will have someone to complain to if there are problems. You can have problems of bad parking in small villages and city centres. But there are no areas into which we are not going to go to keep the roads and the traffic flowing for goods and services for people. We want normality in Northern Ireland—that is what it is about. What on earth is wrong with traffic attendants keeping the roads clear and putting stickers on the cars where they are not? In other areas, what is wrong with going out as a team to remove the vehicle if it has been identified and someone is wilfully refusing to pay the fine? I do not expect, and we will not countenance, any no-go areas for this activity. That may be bold, and the noble Lord smiles, but it is the normal process. The fines are normal, and this is as normal as you can get, which is what the people of Northern Ireland want. On Question, Motion agreed to.
