Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the statement by Lord Sassoon on 22 November (Official Report, col. 977), to what extent gilt issuance of £127.4 billion in the year to date has been offset by purchases in support of quantitative easing through the Asset Purchase Fund.

Answer

In the 2010-11 financial year to date, there have been no purchases of gilts via the Asset Purchase Facility as part of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee's quantitative easing programme.
