Last year, there were a staggering 64 programme motions. At the last business questions, the Leader of the House said that"““whenever a programme motion is tabled, there is an opportunity for Members to debate it and to say whether they think it is appropriate…There is always an opportunity to debate a programme motion””.—[Official Report, 22 May 2008; Vol. 476, c. 409.]"
Under Standing Order No. 83A(7), the question on a programme motion is put forthwith without debate. Unless the Leader of the House was proposing a change to Standing Orders about programme motions, will she make a statement during next week's business to correct that information?
