Nuclear Safety

Motion that the Committee takes note of European Union Document No. 15030/13, a draft Council Directive amending Directive 2009/71/EURATOM establishing a community framework for the nuclear safety of nuclear installations; notes the importance of learning the lessons from the Fukushima nuclear accident at a national level; and agrees with the Government that, while there is a need to ensure that a robust EU nuclear safety framework is in place, any changes to the current framework should be evidence based, proportionate to the risks they aim to address and do not result in a shift of competence away from Member States.
